A Vibrant Future - A School To Be Proud Of
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our website. I hope you find it useful and a helpful guide to Darton High and all it has to offer young people. At Darton we are more committed now than ever to improving our school, working in partnership with pupils, parents and the local community. There is a feeling at Darton that we are at the start of something new and exciting and we want you to be part of that.
I am proud to be Acting Headteacher of this school - proud of our pupils and their achievements and proud of the community we serve. One of our priorities is to provide a safe, secure and happy environment in which pupils thrive and have the opportunity to achieve their potential, equipping them with the skills, knowledge and attitudes that will enable them to realise their future goals and aspirations. We actively encourage pupils to participate in and give of their best in all aspects of school life.We have well-qualified and dedicated staff.
As a school we are justifiably gratified with all of our positive achievements, including the record results that puts us 2nd in the Barnsley league table and the excitement that we have for the brand new school which will open in February 2011. From now onwards, as Acting Head, I am extremely keen to improve further the quality of teaching and learning, the relationship that we have with our community and the partnership that we have with our parents. We are committed to continued and sustained whole school improvement and are working tirelessly in pursuit of our aim to provide all our young people with the foundation on which to build very successful lives. Our five point action plan is a key measure in improving the school:
- Ensuring that Year 11 achieve the best results for a third year running
- Providing quality learning and excellent progress
- Working closely with the community to improve the school
- Maintaining an orderly atmosphere for learning
- To promote a celebratory culture across the school where the contribution of everyone is valued
Looking at the huge amount of information on this website shows you that our commitment to these five aspects of school life is built on very solid ground.
Best wishes
Marc Doyle

Update on Simon Hill [12/02/2010]
Darton Super School
At last! After years of consultation and planning, the £28 million Darton Super School (or Advanced Learning Centre) is now under construction. The new school building will be built at the far side of the existing site and open in February 2011. Additionally in September 2011 Darton will become an 11 - 19 school, with post-16 students (or 'Sixth Form').
This is tremendous news. Of course, the mark of an outstanding school is down to the quality of the teachers and other staff. You'll be aware of the progress the school has made in that direction over the last year or so. However, there is no doubt that we have been constrained by our current buildings & facilities. Well no more! By the middle of next academic year (2010-2011), we will have superb learning, sports & community facilities.

2008-2009 was a real year of improvement for Darton High School. Now we are confidently expecting the best ever GCSE results this August (2010). We're fully staffed with high quality teachers for September. And now we hear that we'll have the buildings to match. Super School indeed!
Keep checking the New School Build section for updates on this exciting project.
