Eco Challenge
Darton high school's, Geography department are one of a small number of very lucky schools to have been part of a residential to Malham Tarn in the Yorkshire Dales. The residential was a lottery funded Eco- Challenge. Only 30 privileged students were selected to attend the residential based on their enthusiasm, efforts and commitment to learning in Geography.
During the 4 day visit we took part in a number of team building challenges, conservation activities and outdoor pursuits. Even the soaring temperatures did not stop Darton High school students making the 4 and a half mile walk from Malham Tarn to Malham cove over stiles and uneven limestone pavement. It was a pleasure to see students appreciate the landscape and explore the outdoors in an educational, yet fun way allowing them to experience an environment no seen before. A personal challenge for many was their first experience of caving, which was exhilarating and for a few a way of overcoming a fear of the dark and tight spaces. Long churn cave proved to a challenging and wet experience that they will never forget.
It is times like this that you see students at their best; they were a credit to the school and threw themselves into each and every task showing that Darton High School is the best!
