GCSE Child Development
This course provides opportunity for practical challenges. It is designed for students who are interested in working with children. Through this course students develop knowledge and skills through a range of different topics. They also have opportunity to carry out a range of practical investigations. The qualification can lead to further study at AS/A level and / or GNVQ in a variety of subjects.

Students learn how to observe and interact with young children. They explore and investigate the needs of young children. They apply the skills learnt in a written paper. Practical work includes investigating the development of children. Use of surveys, questionnaires, the Internet and ICT is encouraged.
Assessment
There is a choice between two levels of entry-Foundation and Higher:
- Three short tasks that demonstrate different practical skills and knowledge
- An individual Child Study-this involves research, planning, practical work and evaluation
- A written paper
